Highly enjoyed hearing Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez at The Metropolitan Opera in New York last night. Their performance of Rossini's La Cenerentola was filled with thrilling chemistry - so much so that conductor Fabio Luisi stopped the performance for Flórez to encore his big aria (Ramiro's Cabaletta). His encore is on YouTube already! From my understanding, this doesn't happen often. However another star tenor, Javier Camarena (who's receiving lots of buzz), also encored an aria during his performance earlier in this production's run. Camarena replaced Flórez for the first few Cenerentola performances due to the latter's cited illness.
I was very happy to see Flórez again - I hadn't seen him since Le Comte Ory (Rossini) in 2011 at the Met. I do look forward to hearing Camarena, though! The Times continues to rave about him...and Flórez!
